Commemorating Hamilton's 120 years of watch making history
In commemoration of Hamilton’s 120 years of watch making history, and its renowned partnership with the US Navy, a reinterpretation of a marine chronometer has been revealed. Limited to 1892 pieces Worldwide, representing Hamilton’s year of foundation, the gents watches have already been snapped up by the brands retailers.
Called the Khaki Navy Pioneer, the watch can be used as a table clock or a stunning eye-catching wrist watch. In the 1940’s marine clocks were highly important navigational equipment, enabling calculations of longitudes and precise locations. They were so important that they pushed the boundaries of time technology in their strive for accuracy. To improve this accuracy, the timing device was shielded from the continual undulating movements of the ship’s hull by being suspended in a mechanical gimbal. This kept the mechanical movement as horizontal as possible to maintain the physical forces as constant as possible. The device was also further protected from the elements by the wooden box.
Its robust large 46mm case with coin edging and swiss hand wound movement gives the watch an authentic vintage style. The Arabic numerals are printed inside the railroad track, and minute numbers on the outside of the track. Blue hour and minute hands, simple sub seconds dial make this a truly beautiful watch.
